Fun in My Life

In my sophomore year of senior high, we were required to recite one poem by Mr. Wang, the Chinese teacher who claimed to check us randomly on the following day. Because of my self-consciousness since childhood, I began to memorize a number of poems and read many other books in order to impress people sometime to gain the sense of security before hitting puberty. Therefore I memorized that poem even when I was in my second year of junior high.

The following day, thanks to my innocent hint, Mr. Wang “randomly” chose me to check the assignment he gave the last day. So I recited that poem smoothly in front of my class. Excited by the respect I showed for his assignment, Mr. Wang asked me,” Mingwu, how many hours did you spend yesterday to memorize that poem?” trying to encourage people to memorize that poem by indicating how little amount of time called for to complete his assignment.

I thought it over and told him the truth,”Three years, Mr. Wang.”

高二的时候，语文课学徐志摩的那个《再别康桥》。王国权老师声色俱厉地要求大家背诵，声称第二天上课抽查。我因为从小骨子里有一种自卑感，喜欢背一些名人警句，名诗骚赋，看些《十万个为什么》，以便在不经意间向人们展示自己的一点狗p才华，获得一点可卑的安全感，所以初二的时候就把《再别康桥》背了。

第二天上课，在我的暗示下，王国权主动抽查了我，我于是很蛋定地把《再别康桥》背了一遍。王国权很兴奋，为了暗示同学们并不需要多少时间来背这首诗,亲切地问：“高明武，告诉大家，你用了多长时间把这首诗背下来的”，眼里充盈着一些晶莹的小东西。我想了想，无辜地望着王国权说了实话：“王老师，我用了三年.”
